Learning times vary, but basic proficiency takes a few months of consistent practice. Mastery is ongoing.
For beginners in Chinese Calligraphy, it's recommended to start with brushes rather than pens. Wolf Hair Brushes (Lang Hao) and Weasel Hair Brushes (Jing Hao) are excellent choices, offering versatility and control. Practice Brushes (Hu Lu) designed for beginners are forgiving, allowing ample room for learning. If you prefer pens, consider traditional Ink Pens (Mao Bi) in various tip sizes for ease of control. Start with a medium-sized brush or pen and experiment with sizes as you progress.
Experiment with various styles, combine techniques, and practice regularly. Your unique style will emerge over time.
